Where is the sector heading, and where are we in it?
A financial-stress screener across every school, and a resilience-against-momentum grid showing who is strengthening and who is sliding.
Useful for governors’ strategy days, merger conversations and risk registers.
How the grid is built
Every school is scored on two axes, each traceable to its latest filed accounts.
→ Momentum (horizontal)
3-year income trend combined with capital spend versus depreciation — is the school investing and growing, or coasting?
↑ Resilience (vertical)
Reserve months combined with the financial-stress score — could it absorb a shock to fees or costs?
Both axes are percentile-ranked against all schools, so each position is relative to the sector and the dashed midlines mark the median. Group charities are placed on capital spend alone (mergers distort their income), and 0 schools lack enough data to plot and are omitted.
Are we investing enough?
Capital-investment and fundraising-dependency signals flag multi-year underspend against peers, before it shows up in the prospectus photos.
